For Competitive Exams

Ten years ago, P was half of Qs age. If the ratio of their present ages is 3:4, what will be the total of their present ages?

45
40
35
30
Explanation:

Let the present age of P and Q be 3x and 4x respectively.

Ten years ago, P was half of Qs age

=> $\left(3x - 10\right)$ = $\dfrac{1}{2}(4x - 10)$

=> 6x - 20 = 4x - 10

=> 2x = 10

=> x = 5

total of their present ages = 3x + 4x = 7x = 7 × 5 = 35
